NURTURA | SILICONE COMFORT & EDUCATION DOLLS

ETHICAL SOURCING

At Nurtura, ethical sourcing matters because trust matters.  We want to make thoughtful decisions as we grow. That means asking questions, reviewing information carefully, and choosing suppliers with care.

When someone chooses one of our babies, they are choosing more than a product. They are choosing a brand they want to feel good about supporting.

HOW OUR ETHICAL SOURCING APPROACH WORKS

We use a supplier review process to guide our sourcing decisions. As part of that process, we ask suppliers about their manufacturing practices, labour standards, and materials. We also request compliance documentation and details of any previous product testing or certification that may support product safety and quality.

To better understand how suppliers operate, we may request video calls, photographs, and supporting information. For example, this can include details about factory conditions, waste practices, and working environments.

We also ask for evidence where relevant. That may include product safety documents, prior testing records, and other compliance information. Documentation varies between suppliers and product types, but we still ask these questions because they matter.

ETHICAL SOURCING WITH A PRACTICAL AND THOUGHTFUL APPROACH

We know international sourcing can limit visibility. That is why we try to ask better questions and seek greater transparency. We do not rely on broad claims alone when making decisions.

Ethical sourcing is not a one-off task for us. Instead, it is an ongoing process of review, learning, and improvement.

REDUCING RELIANCE ON OVERSEAS SUPPLIERS

Like many small businesses, some of our products and components are sourced internationally. At the same time, we are mindful of the risks that can come with long supply chains and limited visibility.

Where possible, we plan to reduce that reliance over time. We do this by exploring local options, simplifying our supply chain, and choosing Australian partners for packaging, finishing touches, and future accessories where practical.

OUR ETHICAL SOURCING COMMITMENT

We are committed to asking better questions and making more responsible sourcing decisions where we can. We will keep refining our process as the business grows. Ethical sourcing is part of how we build trust, and part of how we want Nurtura to grow.

COLLABORATION AND CONSIDERED GROWTH

At this stage, Nurtura is intentionally not offering a large range of baby clothing or accessories. This is a considered choice, shaped by our desire not to contribute unnecessarily to the cycle of mass production and fast fashion.

Rather than producing excess for the sake of range, we are choosing to grow thoughtfully and remain open to more responsible alternatives that better reflect the values of the brand.

We continue to learn from recognised resources and organisations working in this space, including guidance available through the Australian Government’s Modern Slavery Register and the broader responsible business work of B Lab Australia and Aotearoa.

We welcome connection with makers, small businesses, and thoughtful collaborators who share this approach. If you create handmade, sustainable, or small-batch items that could be used as accessories for Nurtura babies, or if you have ideas for more environmentally responsible packaging solutions, we would love to hear from you.

To start a conversation, please email us at hello@thenurturaco.com.au. We would be delighted to hear from people who value quality, sustainability, and intentional design as much as we do.
